Destination Munich
...with its wide variety of Sights, Cultural Events, hotels and restaurants.
Founded in 1158 by Henry the Lion, Munich has a long history. Like many cities, Munich began as a small town enclosed by a wall and then expanded beyond it. Today it is the capital city of Bavaria, the third largest city in Germany and the most visited after Berlin. Munich is located in southern Germany, north of the Bavarian Alps, on the River Isar. Munich has something to offer to everyone, be it culture, hi-tech, parks and greenery, nightlife, architecture, beer gardens, shopping or nearby possibilities for skiing, hiking and sailing.
Being one of the main cultural centres in Europe, the culture scene in Munich is flourishing. You can spend days strolling around in numerous museums and observe beautiful architecture, visit concerts and the theatre and enjoy the never-ending list of places to eat and drink.
Munich's city center (Altstadt) is easily navigable with all the major "must see" sights easy to find by travelers. It is in Munich's center where visitors can see architectural masterpieces from the Neues Rathaus, Frauenkirche, and taste the wondrous Hofbräu beer.
