The duo "88 keys for two" comprises the Slovenian accordionist Polona Tominec and the Italian pianist Giovanna Gatto. The duo was formed in 2012 at the Berne University of the Arts (CH), where both Polona and Giovanna studied and have been supported by their respective professors, the pianist Patricia Pagny and the accordionist Teodoro Anzellotti. They also had the pleasure to join the lessons of great musicians like Edoardo Torbianelli and Robert Levin.
The duo receive high acclaim from audiences and critics alike for the eclecticism of their repertoire. They perform both compositions especially written for the duo, as well as a diverse repertoire of arrangements for accordion and piano. "88 keys for two" have performed many world premieres, collaborating with several composers including the Italian Carlo Galante.
They have performed in major concert halls and festivals in Italy, Switzerland and Slovenia.
The duo was invited to take part to the XIV International Chamber Music Festival in Almere (Netherlands) and the XXX International Music Festival in Belfort (FR).
"88 keys for two" were awarded at the VIII Competition of Chamber Music in Svirel, Stanjel (Slovenia) and they won the First prize at the X International Chamber Music Prize Enrica Cremonesi in Milan. The duo was finalist at the XIX Chamber music competition Luigi Nono in Turin, Grand Price Virtuoso 2017 and they obtained a Special Mention for Contemporary Music (T.Sergeyeva) at the XXV Ibla Grand Price Competition 2016 in Ragusa (IT).
"88 keys for two" are supported from Pro Helvetia and Fondation Suisa, together with the Swiss performers SIG, who will give them the opportunity to join the Classical:NEXT music meeting 2018.
