Christophe Delporte’s artistic career unquestionably starts in 1989, when taking part to RTBF’s « Jeunes Solistes » Contest, he not only gets the second Prize but mainly the Viewers’ Prize by an absolute majority.
“Never before had I heard the accordion played that way” was the leitmotiv commenting his performances throughout the various rounds of the competition.
Supported by an excellent technique and an extremely rich poetic style, Christophe leads the general public through a repertoire that few people would imagine played on the accordion but which yet belongs to the “classic” pieces, such as Nicolaï TCHAIKIN’s Concerto n° 1, which he’ll play with RTBF’s Symphonic Orchestra at the Final of the Competition.
The year after Christophe represents Belgium in Vienna at EUROVISION’s 5th Young Musician Contest. He will play there with the Symphonic Orchestra of Austrian Radio Channel in the mythical MUSIKVEREIN, broadcasted by 23 TV channels.
Being an eclectic artist, Christophe Delporte multiplies the musical experiences. His open and curious mind allows him to express himself in numerous fields and to interact with the best artists and musical ensembles at the moment
Since 2004, after he founded the ASTORIA Ensemble, Christophe Delporte has been specializing in the interpretation of Astor PIAZZOLLA’s music.
With ASTORIA as well as with his other groups -HABANERA Duo ( flute-accordion), RUBATO Duo (violin-accordion) and KYSS JAZZ PROJECT (jazz quartet)- Christophe is invited on numerous TV and radio programs, he also records several albums and regularly performs on Belgian and international stages.
In 1991 he collaborates for the first time with the Communauté Française’s “Jeunesses Musicales” on a show Blaise CENDRARS. Astoria and the music-theatre duo “LES MISERABLES” are integrated into the 2012-2013 season’s program.
In a very different field Christophe has accompanied on stage renowned performers such as Henri DES or Jean-Marc THIBAULT.
He took part to the recording of albums for both artists, as well as for RENAUD, VAYA CON DIOS, Frank MICHAEL, Line ADAM, JOFROI …
Since 1998 Christophe has been accompanying Annie CORDY, of whom he becomes conductor in 2011.
in 2012 he produces Annie CORDY’s “Pourvu Que ça Plaise » Album as well as X-Mas album « Annie Cordy Chante Noël » in 2014.
As the permanent accordionist of MUSIQUES NOUVELLES Ensemble, Christophe collaborated to the creation of KILDA (the Bird Island), LES AVEUGLES (Daan JANSSENS), EGAN (Ramon LAZKANO) and Pierre BARTHOLOMEE’s REQUIEM amongst others.
Christophe has regularly been invited by the NATIONAL ORCHESTRA of BELGIUM to perform Astor PIAZZOLLA’s music in particular, but also for the creation of Jean-Marie RENS’ “Concerto for Accordion and Orchestra”, as part of ARS MUSICA Festival.
In 2014 Christophe was invited to play Sofia GUDBAIDULINA “Last Seven Words of Jesus”
Christophe DELPORTE is currently Accordion Teacher at the Institut Supérieur de Musique et de Pédagogie de Namur (I.M.E.P.).
