Elwira Slazak & Gabriel Collet are french-polish percussionists - classically educated musicians - specialized in Marimba duo.
Known for their emotional & virtuoso performances Axoum Duo is one of the most divers formations who presents different styles in today`s music and creates own musical language – fully emotional , fresh and very expressive. Their inspirations are drawn from latin world, improvisation and a variety of ethnic music.
In addition to their concert activities the duo writes soundtracks for documentaries and work with different musicians, singers, dancers and painters. Their musical path began with contemporary music. Very early they have started to collaborate with emerging composers, creating new repertoire (often dedicated to them).
The artists performed in Azerbaidjan (Rachid Behboudov Theater/Baku)
China (Shanghai Theater), Spain (Auditorio de Tenerife),France, Poland, Sweden.
In past seasons the duo appeared during festivals such as “Karuzela Cooltury”, "Les Journées de la Francophonie", "65 International Chopin Piano Festival" (Poland), "International Seoul Drum Festival" (South Korea), throughout Europe, including "Braunshweig Festival Classix”, "International Marimba Festival", Japan Art Centrum Manngha", "X Franz Schubert Music Festival", etc.
Their first CD recording with new music "Axoum New music for two marimbas" has been released in 2007 including three world recording premieres of works for two marimbas.
Axoum's performances and recordings have been broadcast on different radios in Europe including: Musiques 3, Radio Bartok, Polskie Radio. The duo also makes appearances on different TV programmes.
They regularly perform and give masterclasses and lectures in Universities in Europe and Asia. The duo organises the annual "Axoum International Marimba Masterclasses" (Poland).
In 2011, they appeared as jury members in "4th Universal Marimba Competition" in Belgium.
They hold degrees with the highest distinctions from the Conservatories in Paris, the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Antwerp.
They are recipients of "Prix Luffin" and "The Sir Georges Solti Foundation" grants. The duo is a prize winner of many international competitions.
