The Chamber Orchestra of Valdivia (Orquesta de Cámara de Valdivia, OCV) was founded in 2010 as a full-time professional ensemble of the Universidad Austral de Chile (UACh). Its current Music Director is renowned Italian violinist Emmanuele Baldini.
The OCV performs over eighty concerts a year, including sixteen in the Orchestra Series with the support of additional musicians, twelve in the Chamber Music Series, thirty outreach concerts for general audiences and another twenty for students throughout the region. It is also involved in several special theatre and popular music projects.
The Orchestra has performed over 700 concerts in the Los Ríos, Los Lagos and Araucanía districts in Southern Chile, as well as on tours to Aysén, Chiloé, Santiago, Valparaíso and Uruguay, where it performed at the prestigious Teatro Solís in Montevideo. The OCV has collaborated with numerous guest artists including conductors Rodolfo Fischer, Valentina Peleggi (Italy), Pedro-Pablo Prudencio, Víctor Hugo Toro and Alejandra Urrutia, singers Luciana Mancini, Evelyn Ramírez, Carlos Mena (Spain) and Ricardo Seguel, guitarist Luis Orlandini, pianists Armands Abols, Mahani Teave, Stephan König (Germany) and André Mehmari (Brazil), violinists Álvaro Parra, Mayumi Seiler (Canada), François Fernandez (France) and Luis Otavio Santos (Brazil), and cellists Umberto Clerici (Italy) and Alban Gerhardt (Germany).
The OCV is financially underwritten by the Ministry for Culture, Arts and Heritage, The Regional Government of Los Ríos, and the UACh, as well as by private sponsors and sales.
