Finnish Baroque Orchestra (FiBO)
Dedicated to reinventing the definition of a baroque orchestra, the Finnish Baroque Orchestra’s lively and open-minded approach has brought performances on period instruments to audiences both young and old. During the orchestra’s 26-year history, it has delighted audiences with music from the Baroque to the early Romantic eras, including modern “premieres” of works by Boni and Graupner. FiBO’s repertoire also includes exciting new works, including works by composers such as Virtaperko and Tiensuu that were written specifically for FiBO.
In their home of Helsinki, FiBO frequently performs in the palatial surroundings of the House of Nobility as Orchestra in Residence, where their varied and innovating programming brings together many different kinds of listeners. In addition to the orchestra’s active touring in Finland and abroad, smaller ensembles are often formed under the name FiBO Players to present chamber music programmes. The orchestra’s unique programmes and skilful playing have received high praise from audiences and press alike: ”Das Finnish Baroque Orchestra begeisterte im Linzer Brucknerhaus” (OÖ Nachrichten / Wruss 14.3.2015)
In 2014, FiBO welcomed accomplished violinist Antti Tikkanen as its new artistic director. His infectious zeal for music-making has re-energised the ensemble and allowed the individual orchestra members’ own passion show through in amiable and inspiring concerts.
At times, the musical temperature neared the boiling point, without running the slightest risk of boiling over.”
