biography

Michael Klier, a professional violist is currently advisor for educational music projects. He was manager of Education for the Netherlands Broadcasting Music Centre (MCO)until 2013.
He has given lectures about ‘composing with children’ in Bratislava and Detmold, and in 2007 and 2008, gave children’s workshops for the Vienna Philharmonic during the Salzburg Festival.
Born in Berlin, Germany, Michael pursued piano and violin lessons at a young age, winning the national competition ‘Jugend musiziert’.
He studied violin at the ‘Musikhochschule’ (University of Music) in Cologne and subsequently viola with Professor Rainer Moog in Cologne and Thomas Riebl in Salzburg. Michael also attended master classes, amongst others with the Amadeus String Quartet.
Since 1989, Michael has concertized extensively in solo, chamber and ensemble settings, including with Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt) and Ictus Ensemble (Brussels).
Michael has participated in many radio, CD and TV recordings, including as violist with Musica Antiqua Köln and all three orchestras of the Dutch Broadcasting Service. He has also toured and recorded with the Willem Breuker Collective (Jazz).
Since 1993, Michael has lived in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
