Miriam Overlach

solo harpist & artistic director ensemble lumaka

biography

Miriam Overlach (1980, Germany) is an unconventional harpist rooted in the classical tradition but specialized in contemporary music and the development of the newest musical ideas. She takes great pleasure in devising new projects herself and is always looking for challenging collaborations. She loves working with composers (check her website composingforharp.com) and playing the contemporary repertoire pieces as f.e. ‚Sequenza’ by Berio or Stockhausen’s ‚Freude‘ that she performs regularly for the Stockhausen Foundation Kürten. She has her own ensemble for music from the early 20th century (ensemblelumaka.com). Miriam works regularly with ensembles and orchestras like Ensemble Modern and the Concertgebouw Orchestra, but equally enjoys improvising (as f.e. recently with Anthony Braxton), creating music theatre and experimenting with new concert formats. She recorded various cd’s, as a soloist and with Ensemble Lumaka and is a regular guest on Dutch and German radio.
