Victor Gama is a composer, performer, designer of innovative musical instruments as well as an electronics engineer. He holds a BSc in electronics engineering and an MA in Music Technology from Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design in London and has recently been visiting artist at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Accoustics (CCRMA) at Stanford University and at MIT Center for Arts Science and Technology.
His recent work includes collaborations and commissions with the Kronos Quartet, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Prince Claus Fund, the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts and the J.K. Kennedy Arts Center. 3 thousand RIVERS is his new multimedia opera project, which premiered at the Gulbenkian Foundation Portugal in May 2016 and is programmed for the Teatro Roberto Arias Perez in Bogota on the 13th, 14th and 15th October 2017.
Gama has created the exhibition INSTRMNTS, an interactive exhibition with his series of musical instruments, sound installations, performances, audiovisual displays, games and talks which have been used as dedicated educational programs at music festivals and cultural centers the world over.
He initiated the “Berimbau-Ungu” project with legendary Brazilian percussionist Nana Vasconcelos with whom he has toured in Southern Africa, and is part of The Folk Songs Trio with William Parker, Guillermo E. Brown and producer David Gunn.
