This is an informal get together meant to foster networking and exchange amongst promoters at WOMEX, including and highlighting those who do not cater to an explicit 'world music' audience. Music from foreign cultures and global traditions is more and more successful in mainstream contexts as well as in other niches from hipster pop and electronic to jazz and heavy metal. Many scenes see an increasing demand for diversity and extra sparks in festival and concert programming.

As much as WOMEX is a place to find this, bringing foreign cultures to 'non-world' audiences comes with many issues. Questions which we could tackle in this session are: what attracts younger or mainstream audiences to a WOMEX showcase artist? Which is the common ground with other niches? Is the ever-controversial term 'world' a trap making a band the 'exotic extra'? How to tell their unique stories cliché-free? And what about visa or travel funding?
