In London. Southbank Centre has recently initiated a discussion forum in which women from all over the music industry meet to explore issues facing us and means to bring about change. In many spheres of the music world women are still seriously under-represented, sometimes due to practices that are actively discriminatory. A process of consciousness-raising has led to a positive, upbeat atmosphere and many creative, exciting and effective new ideas. We want to encourage the recognition and celebration of women’s achievements in music, understanding that equality of opportunity is ultimately in everybody's best interests, whatever gender. Classical:NEXT is the perfect forum in which to explore these ideas on an international level. We will have a panel of speakers, a Q&A session and possibly breakout groups if time and space allow.
