In recent years we've seen a rapid growth and development of national music export offices (MEOs) as new types of platforms driving music internationalisation and export. Initially aimed at boosting the independent actors' (such as artists, songwriters and the companies representing them) export capacity and access in mostly non-classical music sectors, the MEOs have recently become increasingly versatile in function and open to all kinds of genres.
In the classical/contemporary music scene, music information centres (MICs) have gathered and made available information on composers, performers and musical works. Often as publishers, distributors or even labels, MICs have been an important tool for the internationalisation of the classical/contemporary scene.
There's now a continuing convergence between the two, giving rise to both friction and fascinating opportunities. Should we talk about it?
