World bands can be slow to remix their music. Not because they have purist views about traditional music production, but because they are not connected to the young producers and studio workers who can really take this forward. Similarly, producers will often be wary of remixing world music due to concerns about the complexity of rights management and the legal implications. In this session, we will examine the issues around remixing and sample rights.

We will also explain our latest project The REMIX SPACE; a revolutionary site, facilitating online collaboration between musicians and producers for the production of new material while protecting the rights of contributors regarding any income generated. With the digitalisation of music, a massive new market has opened up and global music has a very bright future in the hands of young producers and remixers.
