Matt Parkin is Head of Studios at the Royal College of Music. His team provides audio and video production, live streaming, music technology and digital support for the RCM's learning and performance programmes, as well as providing services to external clients.
Matt began his career as a recording engineer and producer. At the age of 26 he joined BBC Scotland as a senior classical music sound supervisor, working mainly for BBC Radio 3. During this time he recorded an acclaimed live Beethoven symphony cycle with the SCO and Philharmonia under Sir Charles Mackerras (later released by Hyperion Records) and Scottish Opera's 2003 Ring Cycle. He moved to a TV management role in 2006 and left the BBC in 2012.
Since joining the RCM, Matt has developed the range and quality of digital support available to students. As a pioneer in the use of high speed networks for music making and teaching, he has been interviewed by New Scientist magazine and BBC Radio 4. He has also expanded the RCM Studios' commercial activities, which now include a regular programme of live broadcasts for Wigmore Hall and Medici TV.
