In this informal, very pleasant atmosphere, the sophisticated kitchen places emphasis on seasonal vegetables, herbs and flowers, with most of them grown locally and/or picked by chef Jim de Jong himself. A 10-minute walk away from de Doelen, the restaurant serves two menus: meat or fish and vegetables.
Westbound from de Doelen is the multicultural street West-Kruiskade. There are many places to eat and most of them very affordable: from Vietnamese Pho on the corner opposite de Doelen, Set Noodle (Japanese ramen), Thai restaurant SOI 3, and the many fine restaurants in the small China town of Rotterdam; to Moroccan cuisine (Ryad), Suriname (Madame Jeanette), and one of the best grill hotspots in town, Holy Smoke.
For dessert, you may wish to check out the best ice cream-maker of Rotterdam, De IJssalon, with several branches, one of them located on West-Kruiskade 60.
Only a 10-minute walk from de Doelen, the vibrant Witte de Withstraat offers many cafés and bars for clubbing and great places to eat. To name but a few:

Just around the corner from Witte de Withstraat, Restaurant Dertien is described by food critics as ‘nouveau rough’: original, classic and modern, all at the same time. It is very likely that your dish will come out of the giant wood-fi red oven. Dertien is gastronomically high-end, yet still homely and very reasonably priced.
