Aquarius is a 24-strong chamber choir dedicated to contemporary music. The group was founded in 1995 by Marc Michael De Smet, a fervent advocate of Flemish music, who remains at the helm today. It was originally known as the Goeyvaerts Consort, but has since expanded and changed its name in 2007. Aquarius's vision is to embrace all forms of contemporary music in a global context: classical and popular, sacred and secular, progressive and conservative. As well as dozens of Belgian choral pieces, its repertoire includes many important works by international contemporary composers. The choir has performed at festivals all over the world, including the Festival van Vlaanderen and the Festival de Liege, and has toured to Estonia and Spain. It has also has made a number of CDs, including two discs dedicated to the works of Belgian composer Lucien Posman. In this new showcase video, the choir can be seen performing works by Paert, Gorecki, Palestrina, Barber, Hildegard von Bingen, Liszt and Kurt Schwaen.
