“Sinfonia” is a memorial wall in sound; it uses pitch material generated from all 1023 cyphered names of the children who died over the 36 year period between 1925 and 1960 in the Bon Secours Home in Tuam, Co Galway and the Bethany Home in Dublin.
The electronic manipulation of the music creates thin filaments of sound, sonic memories, which are distributed spatially around the listeners. The children, when alive, couldn’t have their voices heard, and their names were almost forgotten. Now let their names, cyphered into notes, sound out and surround us with their presence. Sounded together - Sinfonia.
