CMMAS has supported and encouraged the Sonic Arts, and the development of music.
Although it has been open just in 2006, its range of activities are very diverse and avantgarde and connected to a new kind of classical music.
The Centro Mexicano para la Música y las Artes Sonoras (Mexican Centre for Music and Sonic Arts; CMMAS by its initials in Spanish), is a Mexican avant-garde project for music and technology unique in Latin-America. This space offers the infrastructure and human resources for the development of creative projects proposed by music composers, performers and sound artists from anywhere around the world.
We welcome any project that may provide a different perspective from the traditional ways of working with sound. Through our program (concerts, academic and artistic activities) we aim to support new, innovative sound works and research together with its promotion, with special emphasis in the development of new audiences. We name Sound art to any art practice that considers wide notions of sound, listening and hearing as its predominant focus and often engages with the use of new technologies to create an artistic experience in listening and hearing.
