French-Canadian born, Brooklyn based trumpeter, composer and bandleader Rachel Therrien already boasts an enviable CV. Known for her very personal signature with influences from traditional jazz to Caribbean, African, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Colombian and rock, Rachel has developed a reputation as a highly-skilled, versatile and innovative artist.

Having produced 3 records on Multiple Chord Music Label with her quintet ( On Track , 2011; Home Inspiration , 2014; Why Don’t You Try , 2017, recently featured in Downbeat’s Editor's Pick by Brian Zimmerman) and a world-music album Pensamiento : Proyecto Colombia , 2016, recorded entirely with local musicians in Bogota, Colombia (Jacobo Velez, La Wey Segura, Santiago Jimenez amongst others), the talented trumpeter also shared stages with many world class musicians: Tony Allen, the DIVA Jazz Orchestra, Roberto Fonseca, Michel Legrand, Claudio Roditi, Pedrito Martinez, Arturo O’Farrill’s Afro Latin Jazz Big Band , to name only a few.

Therrien holds a bachelor degree in jazz performance from the University of Montreal , a degree in arts management and a music certificate from Instituto Supérior de Arte (Havana, Cuba), and was selected to participate in the Banff Center Jazz and Creative Music workshop held by Dave Douglas and Vdjay Iyer in 2012. She has worked with a large number of mentors and teachers such as Ron DiLauro, Elpidio Chappotin, Laurie Frink, John McNeil, Jonathan Finlayson, Clarence Penn, Ralph Alessi and many more.

For the last few years she has toured as bandleader all over Canada and the United States, taking on the most prestigious jazz festivals and clubs. She has also toured in Spain and parts of South America (Mexico, Cuba, Colombia). Upcoming touring and recording projects include her promising NY Latin-Jazz Quartet.
