The Decoder Ensemble sees itself as a "band" for contemporary music, and is one of the most unpredictable formations in the young New Music scene. Surprising collaborations are as much a part of the program as a heavily electrified sound. Decoders concerts can range from experimental instrumental music via vocal acrobatics to musical concept art. Focusing on young composers from varied cultural and artistic backgrounds, Decoder is pumping a new energy into the contemporary music scene.

Since its foundation in 2011, Decoder has shown a impressing rise in this short time of existence. Performances have led the group already half around Europe, including Klang! Copenhagen, E-Festival Tunis, What’s next Brussels and the Darmstädter Ferienkurse. For the next season Decoder will show among others two brand new music theatres, both also including instrumentalists on stage, by Michael Maierhof (Opera Stabile Hamburg) and by and with Jagoda Szymtka at the festival Warsaw Autumn.

Decoder was awarded the Ebel-Prize Hamburg, and is continuosly supported by institutions such as the Kulturbehörde Hamburg, the Goethe Institut, the Rusch foundation, foundation Feldtmann kulturell, IMPULS Neue Musik, Deutschlandfunk, Konzert des Deutschen Musikrats and others. The first CD by the group was recorded at Deutschlandfunk and was released in 2014 at Ahornfelder.

Decoder Ensemble is run artistically and organizationally in equal shares by all members.
