The erotic drama of this fable inspired by Ovid’s Metamorphoses provide Handel with the opportunity to compose inventive music which is full of contrasts and where the writing of the highly demanding vocal parts illustrates the diversity of the sentiments of the two characters. Raquel Camarinha and Romain Bockler, who won prizes at the 2013 Froville International Baroque Singing Competition, perform and reveal Dafne’s the outraged dignity in her distraught complaint and Apollo’s desire and despair.
