They started out as street musicians, but 3 years later the Brussels trio Las Lloronas became one of the capital’s best-kept musical secrets. With their atypical mix of acoustic melodies and slam, these three women effortlessly seduce friends and enemies alike. Their first album ‘Soaked’ recently released is proof of this. They plunge us into intimate lyrics, imbued with beautiful harmonies and melancholic melodies.
Welcome to Solarius Gamma (album, 2020), the Afro sci-fi world created by graphics designer and beatmaker Florian Doucet, Ozferti for his masked alter-ego. Tasty electro beats spiced up with first hand samples and live guitar work, with colourful visuals taking you to some unknown galaxy where ethiojazz meets hiphop-beats, psychedelic guitars and bass music. Gear up for a fired up live show. A space odyssey, depicting the story of a purple planet and a masked musician, a strange place that makes us reflect on our own world.
REFA (REFUGEES FOR REFUGEES)
“We want to be seen primarily as musicians, as people and not as refugees”
Tarek Alsayed, member of Refa
After a fantastic five-year adventure with two albums, more than a hundred concerts at home and abroad, rave reviews including first place in the annual list of the Transglobal World Music Charts in 2016 and the Klara for best Belgian world music album in 2019, writes Refugees for Refugees is a new chapter in one of the success stories of traditional music in recent years. And they go through life under a new name and a new occupation. Refugees for Refugees becomes Refa. The band will unveil part of its new program for the first time on 8 February during the online edition of the Belgian World Music Night and then have a full premiere at Muziekpublique on 10 April.
Kolonel Djafaar is an instrumental band that plays an infectious mix of afrobeat and ethio jazz. The band has been serving danceable percussion beats and funky horns with influences of psychedelic blues and rock since 2016. Kolonel Djafaar creates an irresistible groove in which the keyboard adds a psychedelic touch to the percussion, bass and guitar. Let yourself be carried away by the narrative melodies of the four horns: from subtle additions to tearing solos. Kolonel Djafaar embodies a very personal interpretation of Fela Kuti and Mulatu Astatke!
DJ CHEB RUNNER
Cheb Runner carries fresh beats From Iraq to Morocco, from your fix of old 4 to the floor disco beat to complex MENA polyrhythms. Combining grooves from North Africa and the Middle-east, Moroccan music, House and Techno, Cheb Runner has always wanted to mark his compositions with the imprint of music from the MENA culture and thus recall their direct filiation with trance. He focusses on authenticity in his work, recording his own sample banks with traditional instruments and combining with warm synthesizers.
Playing everything from dancehall and hiphop to afrobeats, kuduro and afrohouse, DJ SAHЯA is infusing the night scene with stirring desert vibes and taking it to startling new heights. Her tunes make you move in ways you either forgot you could, or never knew you would. Turn up if you’re in for a soulful night out on the town…
