Malick Pathe Sow comes from the Laawbe caste of craftsmen, artisans, instrument makers and musicians who occupy an important place in the oral transmission of knowledge among the Peulh in Senegal. He is an expert exponent of the hoddu, the two or three-stringed lute found all across West Africa under various names xalam, ngoni, komsa and more. His prowess on this ancient instrument led to 10 years of recording and touring the world with Baaba Maal and in 1998, he started his solo career. Now based in Belgium, with four highly-praised albums to his credit, he's building a reputation with the warm, timeless sounds of his hoddu, kora, guitar and percussion ensemble as he sings of the life and culture of the Peulh people as well as the experiences of an African in Europe.
