Atine is a singular meeting of five accomplished musicians from Iran, Palestine and France, drawing on diverse yet resonating influences from Iranian, Arabic, flamenco, jazz and baroque music to create sparkling new arrangements of traditional Iranian songs and original compositions imbued with the spirit of 19th century Persian poetry. Atine's serendipitous beginning came when renowned dancer Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam called on singer Aïda Nosrat to form an accompanying ensemble for a performance at the 2019 Mawazine Festival. She brought in tar player Sogol Mirzaei, percussionist Saghar Khadem and qanun player Saghar Khadem. Rapport was quickly established and after the performance they set to developing a repertoire, inviting Marie-Suzanne de Loye to expand the sonic palette with her viola de gamba. The result: an innovative interpretation of Persian music celebrating the free spirit of Persian women.
