Mathias Reumert is a Danish composer, conductor, arranger, percussionist and the founder of the ensemble Ekkozone. One of Reumert’s best-known projects is ‘Ein Trommelspiel’, an outlandish musical theatre project undertaken with percussionist David Hildebrandt and director Tzara Tristana. One critic wrote of the work, ‘they stand there in their black leather coats and hammer away while silver dust falls from the sky, […] See this show before NASA sends it off as space entertainment!’

Reumert founded Ekkozone in 2013 by engaging top-flight orchestral musicians as ‘scientists’ in a musical laboratory. Ekkozone has performed works by Per Nørgård, Toru Takemitsu, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Steve Reich, among others. Their fresh approach could be challenging and perhaps puzzling to some, but careful listeners will recognise in Ekkozone nothing less than a colossal shift ahead in the musical landscape.
