Session 17

Chaired by Richard Wigley (New Zealand/UK), managing director, Ulster Orchestra

with Fiona Harvey (UK), education & youth ensembles consultant, Association of British Orchestras

The problems and challenges facing emerging leaders in the classical music sector are mind-bogglingly complex. The ABO knows that the next generation of orchestra ceos and senior leaders will need to be open to relentless change and capable of identifying, managing, adapting and committing to those changes. Leaders are increasingly required to skilfully articulate the value of public investment, maintain and extend reach and relevance to society and speak to a much more diverse audience. Does the next generation have sufficient imagination and the skillset to do this? The ABO's Find Your Way mentoring and coaching professional development program for emerging leaders has been addressing these expectations. This interactive session will challenge the conference delegates in seeking creative solutions using some of the ideas arising from Find Your Way.
