Hell’s Fury, The Hollywood Songbook confronts issues of social justice. It is based on a heart-rending song cycle by composer Hanns Eisler, who was the archetypal refugee, running afoul of fascism, communism and capitalism. The rise of the extreme right everywhere renders Eisler’s story even more poignant, the plight of refugees being one of the great humanitarian crises of our age. Whether through war or climate change, migrants from Afghanistan, Latin America and around the world dominate our news.
