For too long, composers have taken a passive role in the music funding process. As administrators in the contemporary classical sector, we rely on the work created by composers - yet much of the funding goes directly to commissioners. Composers tell us that they have little control and often take a back seat.
The PRS for Music Foundation is launching a new funding model that provides an alternative to the way new music has been funded in the UK, increasing flexibility and autonomy for composers looking to embark on the next stage of their career.
Is it time for the composer to be in the driving seat? Is this debate happening in other parts of Europe? We ask three expert European panellists to respond and we’ll be inviting the audience to participate throughout via our live Twitter display and the chance to ask questions and share their experiences with the panel.
