Sturm und Klang
Our main repertoire focuses on the late 20th century and 21st century, with the particular aim of promoting Belgian composers.
Based in Brussels, Sturm und Klang was founded in 2000 by Thomas Van Haeperen and performs in two types of instrumentation: either as a mixed ensemble (string and wind quintet + percussion and piano) or as a chamber orchestra.
The programming of Sturm und Klang focuses on repertoires of the 20th and 21st centuries and actively supports Belgian creations, particularly the young generation of composers (commissions, organisation of a biennial workshop). Every year the orchestra strives to set up one very personal and reckless programme with its own funds in connection with literature, opera or graphic art.
Sturm und Klang recorded Monolithe by the Belgian composer Jean-Marie Rens (Cypres Records). It was awarded an Octave de la musique in 2012. A CD of Propos recueillis by Jacques Lenot will be released in 2018.
