Meeting Berlin

Opening Classical:NEXT at Pierre Boulez Saal

Classical:NEXT 2024 starts in Berlin’s newest concert hall – one of the most beautiful chamber music halls in the world. The Pierre Boulez Saal, designed by Frank Gehry and opened in 2017, welcomes us with a concert featuring a number of leading Berlin ensembles, all international in their composition and each doing groundbreaking work in their own way: Stegreif Orchester, which is developing new forms of presentation; Zafraan Ensemble, which is committed to the music of our time; The Third Orchestra, made up of musicians from different cultural backgrounds based in London and Berlin; Chamber Music with Students of the  Barenboim-Said Akademie, resident of the Pierre Boulez Saal and consisting of young musicians from North Africa and the Middle East; and the Opera Studio of Komische Oper Berlin.

Opening Night Artists

Without sheet music – Without a conductor – Without chairs: Stegreif – The Improvising Symphony Orchestra.

The project »Selam Opera!« takes the Komische Oper Berlin’s self-image as an “opera house for everyone”.

Zafraan stands for music that reflects today’s life, today’s society, and today’s reality in all its facets.

The Third Orchestra emerged in 2019 when the Barbican Centre hosted its launch in a residency.
