Session 8 :
Chaired by Matthias Schneider (Germany), music manager, schneider+ music management and consulting
with Kai-Michael Hartig (Germany), Head of Culture Department, Körber-Foundation, Hamburg; Christian Kellersmann (Germany), managing director classics & jazz, Universal Music Classics & Jazz
Classical music is increasingly conquering new venues, moving beyond traditional locations to alternative venues such as bars and clubs, attracting younger audiences in the process. In turn, electronic musicians have increasingly penetrated classical concert halls. The cross-fertilization of classical and electronic music can be found in event series such as the Yellow Lounge or recorded music series such as “Recomposed,” initiated by Deutsche Grammophon’s Christian Kellersmann. The Elbphilharmonie Hamburg’s concert-series “ePhil,” supported by the cultural department of the Körber-Stiftung under Michael Hartig, represents yet another example. Classic goes Club – just a flash in the pan or a foretaste of the future? What new opportunities does the opening of the classical world bring for the music market as well as for composers and musicians? Christian Kellersmann and Kai-Michael Hartig will discuss the issue with music agent Matthias Schneider.
