International Association of Music Information Centers (IAMIC)

Network Presentation and Concrete Project Examples
Thursday 15:00 - 16:00, VHS Vortragssaal (EG 0117)

IAMIC – the International Association of Music Information Centers – is an international network of organizations that document and promote the music of their country, region or a certain musical field.
These Music Information Centers play a key role in the circulation of artists and dissemination of artistic works both nationally and internationally. IAMIC as a platform and a knowledge hub brings Music Information Centers worldwide together. The idea behind the network is not only to provide an international context for its members, but also to encourage and enhance access to information, stimulate exchanges of ideas, experiences and best practice, as well as to facilitate joint projects. One of these projects, created and lead by eleven Music Information Centers in partnership with IAMIC, is the MINSTREL project (MusIc Network Supporting Transnational exchange and dissemination of music Resources at European Level). Its aim is to promote worldwide local music, information and professionals as well as to support music exchanges and the transnational mobility of musicians.

Breakthrough into a new dimension...

a new way of three-dimensional sound reproduction

Thursday & Friday 13:00 - 14:00, Black Box

… was the theme more than ten years ago when MDG offered their first 2+2+2 recordings, a three-dimensional way for natural-sounding music reproduction using the six channels of the current media DVD and SACD that are still working at their best. The overall benefit: the music lover is no longer fixed to one place in the listening room: you can be absolutely free and move within your private concert hall, chamber music room or cathedral... Up to now, film industries have used 5.1 Surround Sound that physically reproduces a two dimensional sound image. It definitely does a good job, but in one place only: the so-called ”sweet spot“. Now film industries are about to move into threedimensional film and sound reproduction with up to 10.2 channels or more. Will this be the future for music reproduction at home? MDG needs only one step to reach the sound of the near future. With eight channels only that can simply be provided by Blue-ray or in digital download. So complete the 2+2+2 System with another pair of elevated rear loudspeakers and the result is 2222+ Recording. Come, listen, hear and discuss the difference in this presentation.
