Successful strategies for reinvigorating live classical music

(Special Presentation)

Session 6 | Thursday, 30.5.2013 | 16:00-17:15 | Lecture Hall

In his book Present! – Rethinking Live Classical Music, Johan Idema calls for the renewal of the classical music concert, offering more than 40 cases to illustrate that exciting classical concerts and rapt audiences are also possible outside of conventional forums and formats. In this session, Idema will argue that arts budget cuts and a decline in attendance at classical concerts across the world have created an urgent need for innovation. He will introduce and discuss some examples, demonstrating ways to make live classical music more exciting, relevant and approachable. In addition, this session focuses on practical steps for performers, presenters and other classical music professionals.
